Antique Seychour rug, Seychour-Perepedil district, Kuba, Shirwan province, N.E. Caucasus, made in Azarbeycan Ca 1890-1920. The main features of Seychour rugs are the large, dragon-like cross motifs, often inside the ''kufic'' main border shared with other Kuba and Shirwan districts. White ground is rare, the most common ground colours being dark blue and madder red. This is a finely knotted example with a thin, almost tapestry-like texture cotton warp wool knots . There are small areas of repiling and abrash in places but otherwise the rug is complete with original borders all around. Finely restored at a time. 175x119cm
